What's an Exchange?
An exchange is an opportunity for dancers to share knowledge and create with each other. Exchanges are based on two ideas:
1) everyone has knowledge and experience worth sharing, and
2) knowledge can be built within a group of people working together and needn't come only from a teacher.
Exchanges are a way to learn, get feedback, push your boundaries, discover new movements, and have fun. They are especially useful for dancers with more experience and for brave beginners who are not afraid to engage other dancers in an open investigation.
This year, we're continuing to refine the exchange format. The new format aims to give dancers more freedom to explore what they want, but also relies on dancers being willing and motivated to engage in exploration with each other without much external direction. Each exchange will last about 2 hours and will be tied to a presentation and discussion from one of our featured artists. The idea is to use the presentation as a jumping off point for further investigation. The structure of the exchange is designed to get participants interacting with each other and then to provide a safe environment in which participants can approach each other with questions, ideas, and inspiration.
